Short Biography
Weifeng Liu, a.k.a. Aaron, grew up in Shanghai, China. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He studied the motion estimation algorithms in video compression (H.264) in Bell labs Shanghai, designed a satellite communication system and worked on wireless communications (Turbo Hybrid Automatic Repeat reQuest in SJTU. Then, he joined the Computational NeuroEngineering Laboratory at the University of Florida. He received his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Jose Principe in the areas of signal processing, adaptive filtering and machine learning. Upon his graduation, he joined Amazon.com working on demand forecasting, pricing optimization and other machine learning projects in the Retail Systems.
He is a member of IEEE signal processing society's machine learning for signal processing technical committee. He serves as a frequent reviewer for IEEE transactions on Neural Networks, IEEE transactions on pattern analysis and machine intelligence, IEEE transactions on Signal Processing, IEEE transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Signal Processing (Elsevier), and Neurocomputing (Elsevier). He is on the editorial Neural Processing Letters (Springer) and Neurocomputing (Elsevier).
My first name Wei-Feng is two
characters in Chinese (伟 峰), and literally means
high mountains. The meaning of Aaron is lofty, exalted, high mountains.
