NeuroEngineering and Signal Processing

As a research assistant of Computational and NeuroEngineering Lab lead by Dr. Príncipe, I work on point process modeling, point process signal processing, and computational neuroscience. I do experiments and modeling in collaboration with Dr. DeMarse (Neural & Hybrid Computing Laboratory) and also Dr. Yuriy Bobkov (Whitney Marine Lab). I am also working on the interpretation of spike trains as point processes (a type of stochastic process) in a reproducing kernel Hilbert space formalism in collaboration with António Rafael da Costa Paiva. In addition, I work with many people doing research in information theoretic learning and kernel methods (especially kernel design).

Biomedical Informatics and Logic

During 2004-2005, I worked on automated information extraction and logical inference of biomedical text at Natural Language Processing * Computational Linguistics Laboratory supervised by Dr. Jong C. Park. I also implemented a python based web service for joining heterogeneous biomedical databases using natural language query interface (BioNLQ) in collaboration with Hodong Lee.
