Course Objectives: Biomedical engineering is an interdisciplinary field that has seen rapid growth thru the past years. The course objective is to teach engineers the principles and applications of current medical measurement equipment and ultimately to engineer novel solutions to current problems in medicine. This course will discuss the basic principles of measuring physiologic parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, and tidal volume. It will also teach some of the unique aspects of biomedical engineering that are necessary to be successful in this field. Hands-on experience with actual monitoring equipment is provided throughout the course. The course assumes basic knowledge of physics and calculus. Students in all fields of engineering and sciences are encouraged to attend. Major topics include:
