EEL3304: SPICE 2 Assignment

As in your first spice assignment, design a single-transistor amplifier that provides a nominal midband gain of 10 (within 5%) when driving a load resistance of 5k tex2html_wrap_inline255 . Assume a source resistance of 5k tex2html_wrap_inline255 . You may use a 15-Volt power supply ( tex2html_wrap_inline259 15V) and a single Q2N222 transistor. You must use resistors with standard values (see appendix F in Sedra & Smith ). Only use capacitor values in the range 1 tex2html_wrap_inline285 F to 10 tex2html_wrap_inline285 F. Your design goal is to maximize the bandwidth of your amplifier at standard room temperature (27 tex2html_wrap_inline261 C). Use the microsim PSPICE model for the Q2N2222 npn transistor for all of your simulations:

You must hand in each of the following parts:
  1. A summary sheet showing your final hand calculated and spice values for midband gain, tex2html_wrap_inline291 , and tex2html_wrap_inline293 . Use the spice generated small signal values for your hand calculations. (A blank sheet will be provided to you in class)
  2. Briefly describe your design process, i.e. how you decided which amplifier configuration to use, how you went about setting the component values, etc.
  3. Hand in a frequency plot from probe that clearly shows the midband gain, tex2html_wrap_inline291 , and tex2html_wrap_inline293 (in Hz).
  4. AC analysis: Derive the expressions for gain midband gain ( tex2html_wrap_inline299 ), tex2html_wrap_inline291 , and tex2html_wrap_inline293 using the small signal values generated from spice. Calculate the % error from the spice determined values.
